Carolyn Hillyer and Nigel Shaw return to Alternatives to perform from their new album Weaving the Land, best be described as ‘ancient folk’ music, with both gentle and pulsing songs created on many old and traditional instruments. Hand-carved wooden flutes, salterio, dulcimer, Shetland lyre, hurdy-gurdy, tin whistles, small pipes and skin drums were all used to create the landscape of melodies on which these songs were laid. They travel with their work throughout the world including Australia, USA, Japan, Jamaica, Central America and the Arctic. Their most recent concert tour was with Nenets reindeer-herding tribal singers in the far north of Siberia.
